Dr. Pickens’s "Why"
In our field, we get the chance to make an immediate impact on people’s lives every day. We have a chance to influence how they think and how they work. This doesn’t just help the company they work for, but it has the potential to translate over to their family life as well. We get the chance to impact people deeply every day.

Favorite project
One of my favorite consulting projects was part of a multi-facility practice with an energy company. One facility in New Mexico was having an issue with employees not using a lifting aid for 75-pound blocks of substrate. There were multiple reasons for this, but my time with the night shift solved the problem. The night shift workers were finishing faster and with fewer injuries than the day shift workers, but no one had asked them why. They had figured out that the plastic the substrate came wrapped in needed to be cut for the vacuum lifting aid to work properly. This was an immediate solution for the whole company that just came from a brief observation and conversation.
